• Is your business showing up on Google Maps? If not, be sure to sign up at the following link:
http://local.google.com/support/
You can learn all about the maps there and sign up your business at the “Local Business Center” link on the left.
You can find the main link for Google Maps on the Google home page above the window where you type your query. It's a great place to find directions, phone numbers, and even web sites for local businesses. Enter the business name and the city and state. (eg. Laurel Design & Pell City, AL) Depending on how well the business has done with their Google ranking and how lucky they are, you may also be able to enter a keyword and the city and state (eg. Mexican restaurant & Birmingham, AL)
• Speaking of the Google home page, make yours fancy! In the top right corner of your Google home page is a link for “Personalized Home”. Click there and you get a totally different look for your Google page. You'll see how to add all kinds of useful stuff and a few time wasters. Some of them allow the 3rd party creator to get some info about you, so. . . . Anyhow, see what you can stumble upon.
• . . . and speaking of “Stumble Upon”, check out this site for a lot of useful links and some really fun time wasters. Users submit their favorite sites in all kinds of categories, and you can view them according to a randomized presentation of all the topics or chose from a select list.
