Want to be on the cutting edge of cool? Become a member of Digg.com
According to their own verbiage, "Digg is all about user powered content. Everything is submitted and voted on by the digg community. Share, discover, bookmark, and promote stuff that's important to you! "
To learn more about how it works, follow the links below:
Essentially, once an online article, video, or podcast has been submitted it is voted on by Digg readers. When a critical mass of "diggs" has been amassed the entry jumps to the homepage in its category. If it receives enough positive reviews it will qualify as a "Top 10". If it does not receive many diggs, it will fall out of the "Upcoming" section and be replaced by new entries.
Once a submission has earned a critical mass of diggs, it becomes ìpopularî and jumps to the homepage in its category. If it becomes one of the most popular, it qualifies as a ìTop 10î (If a submission doesnít receive enough diggs within a certain time period, it eventually falls out of the ìUpcomingî section.) Viewers can also "Bury" an entry that has "bad links, off-topic content, or duplicate entries".
The main page shows all topics, and on the left you'll see how many "votes" that article has received. At the very top of the page you'll see a green bar with specific topics (Technology, Science, World & Business, Sports, Entertainment, Gaming). Clicking on the main topics brings a batch of sub-topics related to that area.
--- EVEN COOLER!!!: Digg Spyóshows real time activity of Digg entries:
Digg Stack and Swarm:
"Stack shows diggs occurring in real time on up to 100 stories at once. Diggers fall from above and stack up on popular stories. Brightly colored stories have more diggs."
"Digg Swarm draws a circle for stories as they're dugg. Diggers swarm around stories, and make them grow. Brightly colored stories have more diggs."
If view digg Swarm, give it a bit to start collecting. If you're interested in what a story is about, move your cursor over it and you'll get the headline. Click on a story to get more. Click the link in the larger version to go to the full report.
The main section of the Digg site shows various news articles, but there is also a section for videos and one for podcasts. Not surprisingly, the #1 voted podcast is the one for Digg. It's called "Diggnation" and it is produced weekly. Its focus is on technology and culture, and the topics are based on the top digg.com bookmarks of that week.
The great showman, advertiser, and marketer, P.T. Barnum, once recommended that those in business should read newspapers every day to stay informed about the world around them. Today there is so much more than what appears in newspapers to know. Digg.com is one way to quickly see what's at the top of the heap.
